Going Green – what actually makes a smoothie healthy

Green Smoothies

Most people don’t get enough fruits and vegetables in their diet. Increasing your intake of these nutritious foods can increase your chances of losing excess fat and helping to prevent against chronic illness. And how easy is it to get it all in one drink!? Green smoothies are high in dietary fiber which is only found in plant foods and helps to keep things moving through your body. By blending foods before you eat them you “pre-digest” them so the body doesn’t have to work so hard to break down the foods. Blending these foods makes the nutrients readily available to the body without the body having to do much work. Just adding one green smoothie a day to your diet can yield tremendous results. It rejuvenates your body, nourishes your cells, relieves constipation, boosts your energy and gives your body everything it needs to detox naturally. How exciting!

Don’t be fooled by “healthy” smoothies on the market.

Many smoothies are loaded with sugar, fat and extra calories which completely defeats the purpose of drinking something perfectly healthy for you.

Smoothies with a juice base only adds more sugar and calories. Try using coconut water which is an excellent hydrator!

Smoothies should have a 3:1 ratio of vegetables to fruits. Lemons are a great way to mask the “grassy” taste and are loaded with vitamin C. They are also a great liver cleanser and blood purifier. Pineapple is also a great choice which promotes digestion, improves circulation, and is an anti-inflammatory. It is also high in manganese which helps to regulate blood sugar levels.

If you want to feel more energized, lose weight, have clearer skin and just feel better all around, then try having a green smoothie every morning. The results will show for themselves!
